Jussie Smollett will be released from jail...for now.
He was originally sentenced to 150 days in jail after being found guilty of staging his own hate/racial crime. Upon entering the Chicago jail, Smollett was placed in a psych ward after his outburst in court earlier that day where he shouted, "I AM NOT SUICIDAL!" Officials wanted to be safe rather than sorry, so they kept a closer eye on him his first few days behind bars. A doctor also certified he was immunocompromised and at higher risk of contracting COVID while in jail.
Just two days after his lawyers filed an emergency motion to postpone his sentence, it was revealed the artist/actor was opting to starve himself and was only drinking water in jail. Well, he can now have a nice home-cooked meal because a judge has decided that because his offenses are non-violent he can be released on $150,000 bond while his lawyers appeal the conviction.
