A Letter from Virginia Beach City Public Schools:
Dear families and colleagues-
As you’ve no doubt heard by now, there was a mass shooting at Building 2 at the Municipal Complex this afternoon. As of this note, eleven lives have been confirmed lost and others are hospitalized.
As Mayor Dyer noted earlier, "This is the most devastating day in the history of Virginia Beach." I agree completely. The people involved are our friends, family, neighbors and coworkers. One of the victims was a police officer responding to the scene. His vest saved his life.
I am deeply affected by this senseless tragedy, as I imagine you are, and I want to assure you that we are working closely with our friends within the City of Virginia Beach to assist in every way possible.
I also want to assure you that we continue to prioritize the safety of our staff and students above everything else. We know our students will feel this deeply and may have questions. Here are two resources you might consider if you want to discuss these events with them:

In addition, please know our counselors will be on hand Monday morning and throughout the week ready to talk with anyone who needs support.
Hug your loved ones close tonight. I know this horror is incomprehensible. We will work through it together, because we are a family. Our strength and our resolve are unwavering in this city we call home.
