Scary Movie is returning with its original creators.

On Tuesday (October 29), Marlon and Shawn Wayans, the co-writers and stars of the 2000's original Scary Movie, announced they're returning to the franchise for a reboot.

"After nearly 20 years, the Wayans brothers are finally going to give the fans what they’ve been asking for… a return to the SCARY MOVIE franchise!" the pair wrote on social media. "We’re looking forward to having fun on the big screen again."

The news comes after a Scary Movie reboot was announced at CinemaCon in April. At the time, no writers were attached to the project.

Marlon and Shawn, who played Shorty Meeks and Ray Wilkins in Scary Movie, left the horror spoof franchise after the first two movies. The film continued to be produced by David Zucker for its subsequent sequels in 2003, 2006, and 2013.

According to Deadline, Marlon, Shawn, and their other brother, Keenen Ivory Wayans, who directed the first two films, will write and produce Scary Movie 6 alongside Ricky Alvarez, who previously collaborated with Marlon on the Haunted House movies and Fifty Shades of Black. The new Scary Movie is set to film next year and is slated for a theatrical release. A director for the new movie hasn't been announced.
