Mac Miller's estate is emphasizing just how important his upcoming posthumous album is ahead of its release in 2025.

On Thursday, November 21, the late rapper's family shared a vital message about Mac's long-rumored album Balloonerism. In the statement, they confirm the album was created around the time he released his Faces LP in 2014. They also explain how much Mac cared about the album while he was in the process of planning out everything from its creative cover art to the album's rollout. At the end of their message, Miller's estate announces that the album will arrive in January 2025.

"We believe the project showcases both the breadth of his musical talents and fearlessness as an artist," the statement reads. "Given that unofficial versions of the album have circulated online for years and that releasing Balloonerism was something that Malcolm frequently expressed being important to him, we felt it most appropriate to present an official version of the project to the world."

The estate first teased the release of Balloonerism during the first night of Tyler, the Creator's Camp Flog Gnaw. They played an innovative trailer on the LED screens onstage in between Sampha and The Alchemist's sets. At the end, the album's official cover artwork, created by artist Alim Smith, was revealed. The trailer features snippets of songs like “The Song That Changed Everything" with SZA and “5 Dollar Pony Rides," both of which will reportedly appear on the project.

This will be the second posthumous album to come from Mac Miller's vault since he passed away in 2018. The estate released his sixth studio album Circles in 2020 as a companion project to his final LP Swimming, which dropped a month before he died.

Look out for Balloonerism arriving January 17, 2025.
