Cordae shared an incredible moment with his mother during his debut on "Tiny Desk."
On Wednesday, March 19, NPR Music released the 27-year-old rapper's entire performance online. He started the show with his hit song "Saturday Mornings" (without Lil Wayne) and continued with "06 Dreamin." The stand-out track from his recent album The Crossroads samples a demo his mother made during her journey to become a singer. Instead of relying on his backup singers, Cordae invited his mom, Jennifer Dunston, to perform the song alongside him.
"Can y'all make some noise for my mama one time?!" Cordae told the crowd at the end. "Thank you mom for blessing me."
"Life has a funny way of bringing things full circle," Dunston wrote on Instagram. "Sitting beside my son @cordae as his special guest on Tiny Desk was such a special memorable moment. ❤️ Watching him create his own legacy in music while still honoring mine. Dreams do not expire they just evolve. 🙌🏾🎶
Dunston had dreams of becoming a singer before Cordae came into her life. She gained notoriety when she appeared on MTV's "Making The Band 3." Two decades later, the singer and entrepreneur gets to share a stage with her son during his "Tiny Desk" debut. Cordae also performed other songs from his latest project like "Nothing's Promised." He also took it back by delivering tracks from his previous albums like his 2019 LP The Lost Boy and From A Birds Eye View, which dropped in 2022. You can watch the entire performance below.
Speaking of "Nothing's Promised," Cordae recently dropped the official music video. Directed by Roc & Oyasi, Cordae posts up with his crew while he performs the track, which samples Kanye West's "Heard 'Em Say." Watch the music video and his "Tiny Desk" performance below.
