Four-time Grammy winner Lizzo is set to portray rock and roll legend and gospel singer Sister Rosetta Tharpe in an upcoming biopic.

According to Deadline, Amazon MGM Studios is producing Rosetta, a self-titled film centered around a pivotal period in the life of the "Godmother of Rock and Roll." Lizzo landed the role to portray Tharpe, whose music influence spans decades and renowned artists including Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, and more.

The Grammy award-winner took to Instagram to share the news of her upcoming film.

"Black people made rock n roll yeaaaah," she wrote, adding "It's finally out ya'll. I'm so excited and honored" on her Instagram story.

Inspired by true events, Rosetta will showcase Tharpe's life as she "shatters musical boundaries with her signature guitar sound." The biopic will also highlight how the rock star had to navigate societal constraints, conceal her love for another woman, and ultimately transform a wedding into one of the most legendary concerts in history: the first stadium show," per Deadline.

The project is currently in development with Kevin Beisler, Significant Productions’ Nina Yang Bongiovi and Forest Whitaker producing. Lizzo will also serve as a producer while Natalie Chaidez and Kwynn Perry are writing the screenplay.
