The man accused of murdering rapper Trouble three years ago has pleaded guilty to the crime and learned his fate.
According to FOX 5 in Atlanta, Jamichael Jones accepted a plea deal on Friday, March 21, just hours before jury selection was supposed to begin for his upcoming trial. Jones was charged with felony murder, battery and other charges. However, his plea deal allowed him to plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter. The other charges were dropped as part of the deal. After accepting the plea deal from prosecutors, Jones was sentenced to 20 years in prison minus time served.
Jamichael Jones turned himself in to police in 2022 after he was identified as the suspect who shot Trouble, born Mariel Orr, in the apartment of Jones' former girlfriend. At the time, Jones reportedly forced himself inside the apartment, found the rapper asleep in his ex's bed, and assaulted the woman. Orr tried to stop the attack but Jones opened fire and fatally struck Orr in the chest. The Thug Luv rapper was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators determined Jones and Orr had not met before the shooting. They connected Jones to the shooting using surveillance video and testimony from witnesses. While he was on the run, Jones' mother and police were able to convince him to turn himself in. He was initially charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, second-degree criminal damage to property, and family violence simple battery.
