Will Smith has been banned from the Oscars ceremony for the next 10 years after slapping Chris Rock who made jokes about Jada Pinkett-Smith this year. She suffers from hair loss due to Alopecia and sources close to Rock say he was unaware of this before making the joke. The Board of Governors moved up their meeting to today after Smith voluntarily resigned last month.
“The Board has decided, for a period of 10 years from April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs, in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards,” Academy President David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson said in a statement on Friday.
Chris Rock has not spoken out publicly about the slap.The most he's said was during a comedy show where he says he's "still processing" it.
