Arrest Made in 1996 Murder of Tupac Shakur

It's been 27 years since rapper Tupac Shakur was gunned down during a drive-by in Las Vegas. Today, police arrested Duane "Keefe D" Davis in connection to the Sept. 7. 1996 shooting that killed the East Harlem rapper. Recently, police began a more in-depth investigation according to Reggie Wright Jr. who worked as the head of Death Row Records. Last year, Wright insinuated all eyes were on Keefe D saying "Keefe D been having the runs for the last two weeks... because yeah, they are knocking on doors and there's some activity."

That activity increased in July when police raided Davis' wife's Las Vegas home. Police confiscated multiple laptops, a cell phone, a hard drive, a Vibe Magazine featuring 2Pac, several .40-caliber bullets, two tubs containing photographs, and a copy of Keefe D's 2019 memoir Compton Street Legend.

Davis has been charged with murder with use of a deadly weapon and indicted by a Nevada grand jury. Chief Deputy District Attorney Marc DiGiacomo described Davis as the “on-ground, on-site commander” who “ordered the death” of Shakur.

Shakur died six days after a drive-by shooting that happened while he was in a car at an intersection near the Las Vegas strip. A white Cadillac pulled up and opened fire on the car Shakur and Death Row Records boss Suge Knight were in while at a red light. Davis had previously admitted to being in the Cadillac. No arrests had ever been made in the 27 years since his murder.
