Akon Being Sued for $4 Million By Former Partner

Imagine having a great relationship with someone for years and you're working with them, then things go downhill. I mean, it happens, right? But for Akon, things are going bad. Akon's former business partner, Devyne Stephens filed a lawsuit against Akon for about $4 million. According to Page Six, Devyne claims he's owed royalties in the lawsuit that he filed in 2021. The two of them had an agreement from 2018 where Akon agreed to pay Devyne $3.25 million over the course of four years but he still hasn’t paid the last installment of $750,000, the updated suit claims. It seems like they have been going back and forth for a while now. Devyne even claimed Akon sabotaged his relationship with Atlantic Records to get him out of a clause in their settlement that would’ve had Devyne collect royalties on four future albums while under a “major” label. However, Akon claims that Devyne should be barred from collecting 20 percent of his royalties since he’s under BMG now. That's a lot of money and a lot to deal with.
